We have momentum, but we have more work to do

On 26 June the Chairman of the SA Productivity Commission, Mr Adrian Tembel, delivered a speech entitled ‘We have momentum, but we have to work to do’ to the American Chamber of Commerce in Australia. His remarks highlighted South Australia’s recent strong economic momentum with strong growth in employment and in economic output. The Commission’s assessment of the near-term prospects for the state’s economy are somewhat more optimistic than those in the recent state budget, with on-going growth in health and disability spending expected to support continued growth in employment. However, diversifying our economy towards more innovative, outward looking, value add export-oriented jobs is essential if the state is to achieve sustained growth in average real wages that allow us to catch up with the rest of Australia.
